Further feedback

Monday 4th November 2013

Having received feedback from Paula, it is really useful to know where I need to improve my writing and which questions I must answer to allow a thorough inquiry analysis. As the inquiry is still in progress, rather than re-writing it now, I shall be able to refer back to the feedback when writing more and my final copy. It has become clear to me that I must delve deeper into my words and ideas, give a detailed explanation of what I have discovered. I shall have to give evidence of the statements I give, include any relevant quotes to show how I have gone about doing something rather than just stating the obvious. It seems as though it could be quite time consuming but I am fully aware of the detail I must go into otherwise there would be no reasoning to my inquiry.

  1. Hi Emily, sounds like things are going well for you! Thanks for sharing your feedback from Paula, when you say you realised you have to delve deeper do you mean you have to back up every statement you make with some form of evidence (data, lit, personal ex)? Also I am finding tackeling my literature to find the right information very time consuming as I find the whole book interesting and they are all hundreds of pages long. How did you approach this? Thanks, Hollie x

  2. Hi Emily,
Getting feedback is always helpful isn't it! I think it not only gives you an idea of where you need to improve or reflect further but also shows you how far you've come along the process too.
Your analysis still sounds like a work in progress, as it is for me too, and I found the sheer amount of data very daunting before starting in on it. It is still a bit daunting from a time consuming point of view but I am finding that the more I read/ listen through, the more I can see patterns emerging and the 'one offs' really stand out too.
Do you think that you will develop deeper thinking as you get further into your analysis? I really believe that it takes time for connections to be made in the brain and that it won't be possible to see the heart of the data until this process of assimilation, reflection and understanding has taken place.
Or at least that's what I keep telling myself when the panic starts rising! ;)
I am also very aware that my inquiry is for developing my practice and, as such, if I cannot 'finish' it in time for the BAPP then I will not be too worried - I will Critically Reflect and produce my Professional Artifact of course but within that I will also acknowledge that this is a continuing process, in other words, the handing in, although an end of sorts, is not the finish line.

  3. Emily would be good to have a quick chat to structure the way you are explaining your inquiry. I just had one with Daisuke today - he is now using theories and what his participants have say to develop his analysis - explaining 'the obvious' is a step closer to putting the communication in writing. It is basically who what where when why - and pinpointing what analysis is for you in your inquiry is the key. Keep with it! and please get in touch.
